In 1956, the Baltimore Clippers moved south to Charlotte. Why do such a thing? Well, when your arena burns down you move to Charlotte. That's just how it is. After attendance numbers the first year in North Carolina were so good, the owner decided to stay on a permanent basis. They found success on the ice too, winning the Walker Cup in 1957 and 1958. In 1960, the team was renamed the Charlotte Checkers, who still inhabit the Charlotte Coliseum today (albeit a different iteration).
