Originally slated to play in Dayton, Ohio, the Aeros moved to Houston before ever playing a game. They would find success in Texas, though. The team would be one of the most successful at the gate in the WHA and were also wildly successful on the ice. In their six seasons, they reached the league finals three times, winning two championships. The team featured Gordie Howe and his two sons, marking the first time a father-son combo played on the same team. Eventually, the WHA would merge with the NHL and the Aeros would be left out in the cold (or the Texas sun). With most of its American teams struggling, the NHL only admitted one American team from the WHA. And with that, the Aeros were left with no choice but to fold.
