The WCHL was the minor-pro successor to the Pacific Southwest Hockey League that had operated as a semi-pro league from 1972 through 1995, and in that league Bakersfield had the Bruins through 1988.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs for the Fog, they joined the new WCHL as a founding member and played at the Bakersfield Convention Center. The team grabbed a big name to coach them, as Keith Gretzky coached the team for all three of their seasons.
