Fort Worth Texans

The Fort Worth Texans began first as the Memphis Wings, later becoming the Fort Worth Wings upon their move to Texas. When the team changed pro affiliates prior to the 1974-75 season, they changed their colors to blue and orange as well as their logo -- a hockey stick over Texas -- to better match that of their Long Island based pro affiliate. The Texans would become fierce rivals of the Dallas Black Hawks, who were only a short drive away. The rivalry reached its nadir in 1978, when the Texans defeated the Black Hawks in the CHL finals in seven games. Texans alumni include lots of players who went on to great things on Long Island including Bob Bourne, Richie Hansen, Lorne Henning, and Bob Lorimer. The Texans would fold following the 1981-82 season.
