San Diego Mariners History

The San Diego Mariners started play in the WHA for the 1974-75 season after moving across the country from New Jersey. The Mariners were successful on the ice each of their three seasons in San Diego, making the playoffs all three times and the second round twice. They didn't have a ton of success in terms of attendance though, and were sold to a group who wanted to move the team to Florida. That never materialized and the team folded in mid-1977. At least they left behind an awesome maritime logo!
