Long Island Ducks Hockey Apparel

The Long Island Ducks were originally named for the plethora of duck farms that covered Long Island in the first half of the 20th century. The Ducks were one of the most rough and tumble teams in the old Eastern League, backed by a raucous fanbase in Commack, New York, that was known for absuing opposing players and referees both on and off the ice. The Ducks were led by minor league legend and former Toronto coach John Brophy. Brophy was the inspiration for Reg Dunlop's character in Slapshot, to give you an idea of what he was like. The Ducks would make the Eastern Hockey League finals in back-to-back seasons in 1965 and 1966. They played the Nashville Dixie Flyers both times, winning the title on the first try but losing on the second. Another notable Ducks alums is former NHL coach Don Perry. The Ducks would fold in 1973 after the introduction of an NHL franchise on Long Island, which pretty much drained the minor league team's fanbase.
