Kelowna Buckaroos / Summerland Buckaroos
The Kelowna or Summerland Buckaroos were a Junior A hockey team that played in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) from 1961 to 1988. The team spent 16 seasons in Kelowna, winning the league title in 1965 and 1974. Despite not winning the league title in 1977, the team won a franchise record 49 games that season, besting the 46 they won in 1975.
In 1983, the WHL's Kelowna Wings moved to town and the Buckaroos franchise was sold and relocated 30 minutes south to Summerland. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as well in Summerland. The team spent five increasingly difficult seasons there, which ended in only a total of 11 wins over their last 103 games. The team would go on hiatus after the 1987-88 season but did not return.
