Des Moines Capitols

The Des Moines Capitols started play in the IHL for the 1972-73 season when the Des Moines Oak Leafs rebranded to the Capitols. They played out of Des Moines Ice Arena, which still exists today. In their second season as the Capitols, they would win the regular season title with a 45-25-6 record and go on to win a playoff title as well, defeating Saginaw in four games. After a less impressive 1974-75 campaign, the Capitols would fold at season's end.
