Lubbock Cotton Kings™
The Lubbock Cotton Kings™ played at the Lubbock Coliseum from 1999-2007, starting in the WPHL. They were highly successful their first two years, winning 42 of 70 in 1999-00 and 40 of 71 the following season. They would make the playoffs both times, advancing to the WPHL Finals in 2001. After sweeping the first two playoff rounds, they would lose in the Finals in five games to Shreveport.
Following that season, the WPHL would merge with the CHL and the Cotton Kings would never be quite as successful on the ice, although they would continue to draw solid crowds. In six CHL seasons, they would only qualify for the playoffs once and and finish over .500 three times. After the 2006-07 season, the Cotton Kings were not able to come to an agreement with the City of Lubbock on their use of the Coliseum and the team would eventually fold. The CHL itself would go out of business in 2014.
