The Fort Worth Texans began first as the Memphis Wings, later becoming the Fort Worth Wings up on their move to Texans. When the team changed pro affiliates prior to the 1974-75 season, the team changed their colors to blue and orange as well as their logo -- hockey stick over Texas -- to better match that of their Long Island based pro affiliate. The Texans would become fierce rivals of the Dallas Black Hawks, who were only a short drive away. The rivalry reached it's nadir in 1978, when the Texans defeated the Black Hawks in the CHL finals in seven games. Texans alumni include lost of players who went on to great things in the NHL on Long Island including Bob Bourne, Richie Hansen, Lorne Henning, and Bob Lorimer. The Texans would fold following the 1981-82 season.
