Denver Spurs
The Denver Spurs were originally a WHL franchise starting play in the 1968-69 season. They spent six seasons in the WHL, winning the league title during the 1972 season. The WHL would fold in 1974, and the Spurs shuffled their cowboy skates over to a new league for the 1974-75 season. The following year, the Spurs joined the WHA and assumed most of the players from the Chicago Cougars, who had folded a few weeks earlier. The Spurs had financial trouble though, and when the City of Denver put a lien on the franchise on December 31, 1975, the team took off for Ottawa and finished the season as the Ottawa Civics.
