Tennessee Hockey Apparel

Seven defunct Tennessee hockey teams from Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville, on shirts, hoodies, hats, and jerseys you will not find anywhere else.

Nashville had pro hockey for thirty-five years before the Predators, most of it in a downtown auditorium built for conventions, and the Dixie Flyers were an Eastern League power when the Eastern League was the roughest circuit in the sport. Memphis and Knoxville each ran their own teams through the same decades. Every one of them is gone now. This is where they live on.

Tennessee hockey history

Nashville. The Nashville Dixie Flyers joined the Eastern Hockey League in 1962 and played nine seasons at the Municipal Auditorium, winning back-to-back league championships in 1966 and 1967 and drawing crowds that surprised everyone who assumed hockey could not work in the South. The Nashville South Stars followed in 1981 as the Minnesota North Stars' affiliate; they lasted one season in Nashville before the franchise moved to Birmingham. The Nashville Knights took the ice at the Auditorium in 1989 and stayed seven years, and the Nashville Ice Flyers were the city's last minor league club, playing right up until the Predators arrived in 1998.

Memphis. The Memphis South Stars played at the Mid-South Coliseum in the late 1960s as a farm club of the expansion North Stars, a decade and a half before Nashville borrowed the same name. The Memphis RiverKings came to the Coliseum in 1992 and played eight seasons before moving across the state line to Southaven, Mississippi, where they carried on as the Mississippi RiverKings.

Knoxville. The Knoxville Knights were East Tennessee's entry in the Eastern Hockey League during the 1960s, sharing the circuit with the Dixie Flyers and building the fan base that later minor league teams in the city inherited.
