Denver Spurs
The Denver Spurs were originally a WHL franchise starting play in the 1968-69 season. They spent six seasons in the WHL, winning the league title during the 1972 season. The WHL would fold in 1974, and the Spurs shuffled their cowboy skates over to the CHL for the 1974-75 season. The following year, the Spurs joined the WHA and assumed most of the players from the Chicago Cougars, who had folded a few weeks earlier. The Spurs had financial trouble though, and when the City of Denver put a lien on the franchise on December 31, 1975, the team took off for Ottawa and finished the season as the Ottawa Civics.
