Syracuse Bulldogs
The Syracuse Bulldogs are the "final boss" the Charlestown Chiefs have to face in Slap Shot and the most rough and tumble team in the Federal League. Things get ratcheted up immediately as Reg Dunlop puts a bounty on Syracuse's Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken. In the playoff final, the Bulldogs is a who's who of Federal League enforcers, including Ogie Oglethorpe.
The Bulldogs colors and logo are a play on the real like NAHL team, the Beauce Jaros who hailed from Beauce, Quebec. The Jaros had a very similar logo and sported awesome orange jerseys. Oglethorpe's character was inspired by Bill Goldthorpe, who was a WHA and NAHL player in the 1970s and sported a huge afro. The other Bulldogs enforcers were real hockey players. Blake Ball, long time EHLer, played for the Syracuse Blazers in 1976. Mark Bousquet played for the Philadelphia Firebirds in the 70s and portrayed Andre "Poodle" Lussier. And Joe Nolan who played Clarence "Screaming Buffalo" Swamptown played a few years in the EHL in the mid-1950s.
