Hyannisport Presidents
In the Slap Shot Charlestown Chiefs' first game, they face off against Nick Brophy and the Hyannisport Presidents. The Presidents wear green jerseys with "PRESIDENTS" in a diagonal across the chest, which are pretty much spitting images of the real-life Buffalo Norsemen's jerseys. Brophy gives a monlogue to Reg Dunlop before the opening faceoff about being drunk, his wife, leaving him, and other such things to try and epitomize the stereotypical minor league hockey player. Interestingly, the last name Brophy is probably a direct play on John Brophy, who was a long-time minor league and tough guy in the old Eatern Hockey League (Brophy eventually achieved success in the NHL as a coach of the Maple Leafs), although we don't know that he had any of the same problems Nick Brophy describes.
Later in the season, the Chiefs would travel to Hyannisport where they would find a hostile crowd. The Chiefs would win easily, 8-1, but the Hansons would go into the stands after the game in a huge brawl. Strangely, the movie premiered in 1979, which was prior of a similar incident with Mike Milbury and the Boston Bruins in 1979, where the team went into the stands to fight fans.
