Danbury Trashers Hockey Apparel
The Danbury Trashers are one of the most unique stories in hockey history, as told through the Netflix documentary, Untold: Crime & Penalties. The Trashers played for only two seasons, but left a mark literally and figuratively on the hockey world.
The Trashers started play in 2004 at the Danbury Ice Arena as an expansion franchise in the UHL, which operated at the 'AA' level. James Galante purchased the expansion rights and named his 17-year old son, AJ, as General Manager. The team took on a rough and tumble style of play and set a league record with 2,776 penalty minutes. But - it worked. The Trashers won 44 of 80 games and made the playoffs.
The team's second season was even better, winning 48 of 76 games and another playoff appearance. They scored over 300 goals and toned it down a touch, with "only" 2,278 penalty minutes. The Trashers also made a memorable run all the way to the league Final, advancing through the first two rounds in exciting fashion via a Game 7 win in the first round and a double OT win in Game 6 in the second round. They would fall to Kalamazoo in the Final. After the season, the elder Galante would be indicted and the team folded.
