Pittsburgh Phantoms

The Pittsburgh Phantoms were one of 12 expansion franchise in Roller Hockey International for the 1994 season. The team was named after the Steel Phantom rollercoaster at nearby Kennywood Park. The team went all out with former Penguins connections. Rick Kehoe coached the team and 38-year old Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier came out of retirement to play for them as well. They also featured Warren Young, who had played for the mid-80s Penguins and Mario's brother, Alain Lemieux.

The Phantoms weren't very successful, only attracting a couple thousand fans per game. Their owner, Penguins owner Howard Baldwin, also introduced an indoor soccer team around the same time, perhaps unintentionally pitting his two new investments against each other. The Phantoms wouldn't return after only one season.
