Memphis/Mississippi RiverKings
The Memphis RiverKings began play in the CHL in 1992 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, TN. Their first head coach for the 1992-93 season was Steve Carlson, of the Hanson Brothers. The RiverKings didn't have a ton of on-ice success in Memphis, although they did make the CHL finals in 1997, losing to the Fort Worth Fire. In 1999-00 the franchise hit a low water mark with a 9-57 record. Following that season, they moved 15 minutes south and across the Tennessee border to Mississippi and the Landers Center (what it is now called) in South Haven, MS.
The RiverKings would have a successful start in South Haven, as they won CHL titles back-to-back in 2002 and 2003. In 2007, after holding a fan poll, the team would re-brand as the Mississippi RiverKings, fully embracing their move to Mississippi. In 2011, the team would move to the SPHL where they would make the playoffs in each of their seven seasons. Their best run came in 2015 where they made the final, losing to the Knoxville Ice Bears in two games. The RiverKings would fold in 2018.
