St. John's IceCaps

The St. John's IceCaps started play in the 2011-12 season as a top level affiliate of Winnipeg and then Montreal. The team played at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. The IceCaps played six seasons in St. John's, and had a solid record most years. 2013-14 was probably their best year, as they won 43 games and made a run to the playoff final. The team defeated Albany, Norfolk, and the WBS Penguins to get to the final. Unfortunately, in the final they lost to Texas in five games.

While the team had pretty good attendance in St. John's, the distance and lack of direct flights made it tough for opponents to visit and for the big league club to recall their players. In 2017, Montreal moved their top affiliate to Laval, and the IceCaps were no more.
