Montreal Roadrunners

The Montreal Roadrunners were a Roller Hockey International expansion franchise for the 1994 season. The team was one of the most successful at the box office, attracting nearly 8,000 fans per game to the Montreal Forum for their first season in 1994. The team was named after their coach and GM, Yvan Cournoyer, whose nickname was the Roadrunner and was a longtime Montreal Canadien.

In their second season, 1995, the team made it to the playoff final against the San Jose Rhinos. It was a thrilling matchup that saw over 11,000 people in attendance at the Forum. The Roadrunners would lose to the Rhinos in overtime.

Despite their success, the Roadrunners still weren't profitable and they filed for bankruptcy at the end of the 1996 season. The team would re-organize and return for the 1997 season but the magic was gone as the team only won 9 of 24 games and was attracting around half as many fans as their first season.
