Motor City Mustangs

The Motor City Mustangs were a one-year wonder in Roller Hockey International for the 1995 season. The team was actually owned by a, at the time, current NHL player in Shawn Burr along with the brothers of Dino Ciccarrelli. They had more big league tie ins as Marty Howe was selected to coach the team.

The Mustangs were unfortunately a flop from the start as the team only attracted about 2,000 fans to their opened at Cobo Arena and it was downhill from there. The team won 11 of 24 games but did feature the RHI player of the year in Tony Szabo, who came to local fame as part of the Northern Michigan University 1991 NCAA title winning team. Szabo scored 50 goals in 24 games on his way to being named RHI player of the year. The team also featured Daniel Berthiaume, former LA King, in goal. The Mustangs would fold after only one season.
