Wexford Raiders

The Wexford Raiders were a long-running junior team from the Toronto suburb of Wexford, Ontario. There were a number of iterations of the team, starting in 1971. After one season as a Junior B team in the Metro Jr B League, the team moved to the Junior A in the Ontario Provincial League. These Raiders spent nine seasons in the OPJHL before folding. The most notable alum was Mike McEwen who went on to play for the Rangers and Islanders.

During the 1980s, the Raiders made a return in the Metro Junior B league. In 1989, the team would again move to Junior A in the Metro Junior A League, and become a dominant team throughout the 90s. In nine seasons in the Met, they posted a winning percentage under .700 only once and won at least five league titles. Their NHL alums from this time period include Anson Carter, Mike Zigomanis, and Brian Muir.

The team moved into the Ontario Provincial Junior A league for the 1998-99 season and continued to dominate, posting a winning percentage over .700 in 5 of 8 seasons. Daniel Winnick and Brendan Smith both went on to solid NHL careers after leaving the Raiders during this time period.
