Lansing Lancers

The Lansing Lancers were a one-season entry in the International Hockey League (IHL), playing the 1974-75 season at the Metro Ice Arena in Lansing, Michigan.

The team had originally been the Omaha Lancers starting in 1959, before moving to Toledo in 1963. In Toledo, the franchise played 11 seasons, first as the Blades and then as the Hornets. They moved about two hours north to Lansing, and became the first and last minor league team that city has had.

The Lancers wouldn't last the full season. They played 41 games, going 12-28-1 before folding in January 1975. Supposedly, their arena only held 900 fans and they couldn't even fill half of that. The Metro Ice Arena was turned into a movie theater in the 1980s.
